People with ‘social media’ in their job title may be commonplace now, but it’s been almost 10 years since newsrooms first hired people to fill social media roles. As part of a series looking at senior social media editors who got their starts in junior roles, Julia Haslanger finds out for MediaShift how one social media editor worked with other editors to share social media knowledge and ideas that were relatively new at the time. Along with social media itself, social and web analytics have grown into important metrics in terms of making editorial decisions, something the industry today knows all too well.
