Business Insider’s latest content strategy is to cross-post videos from its Facebook page to its YouTube channels instead of producing new content. While digital publishers have previously cited original content as the best method of gaining traction, Business Insider hasn’t encountered any problems with this strategy – instead of seeing a growth of 128 million YouTube views from June 2016 to June 2017. What’s more, this growth appears to be completely organic – as Business Insider didn’t pay for any views or subscriber acquisition, according to editor-in-chief of Insider, Nicholas Carlson. This type of syndication of videos across the two different platforms may go against traditional ideas about digital publishing, but Business Insider seems set to turn conventionally held ideas on their head.
