With Disney’s Move to Streaming, a New Era Begins

Brooks Barnes looks at Disney’s plans to add two new streaming services to its traditional business model, for the New York Times. Announced on Tuesday, the global media giant is set to remove its movies (Disney and Pixar) from Netflix and instead stream them on its own services. The decision to remove Disney’s Marvel and Star Wars movies from Netflix hasn’t yet been made, but after the announcement from Disney, Netflix shares dropped to $175.78, a decline of 1.5 percent. But that doesn’t mean Netflix should worry just yet because they already have a head start of 158 million subscribers across the world.
