A recent NPR survey suggests marketers should be prepared to optimize their presence on smart speakers — because people are buying a lot of them, and they’re using them to search the internet.

Of those who own the devices, 45 percent said they planned to buy another one. Moreover, the survey reveals that people are very satisfied with their devices; 65 percent of owners said they wouldn’t want to go back to their lives before owning a smart speaker, and 42 percent said they had become “essential” to their daily lives.

Of particular interest to content marketers is that the third most common reason people bought smart speakers was to ask it “general questions,” supplanting the role of computers or smartphones to facilitate such inquiries.
